My name is Jane Foster. And if I'm remembering everything correctly, which I can hardly believe, then I've been here before. That being the case, there are a few people I need to talk to. You'll know who you are.

For those who don't know me, you might remember a spectacularly failed attempt at escaping the enclosure some time ago. (Sorry for the vague time frame. I haven't figured out yet how long I've been gone.) For anyone who arrived after that time, I'm an astrophysicist who specializes in wormholes. Well, it's more complex than that, I also study quantum energy fluctuations and related terrestrial phenomena pretty much all over the world - Earth, I mean. Earth. Earth in 2013, for anyone curious. Sorry, this is getting off topic.

In a nice turn of events, I didn't wake up outside, so no search and rescue needed this time.

Hi, everyone. Old and new. It's - weird to be back.

[ Once she's done writing that plain, unembellished message, Jane shuts her journal and sighs, staring at the blank wall opposite her. Thank the powers at be for small blessings, like waking up warm and comfortable for once instead of half-frozen on a forest floor.

Since the apartment in which she awoke is one of the unclaimed ones, there's nothing really here for her to make use of - or, alternatively, disturb. So a short while later she is slipping out the door, walking on tip-toe down the halls and stairways, though she'll pause at the entrance of the building. She doesn't relish the idea of going out in the cold barefoot and in only a sundress. So she'll skulk about there, deliberating while checking her journal periodically for responses. Anyone who doesn't immediately strike her as Overtly And Comically Evil will probably get a hello. ]

And here we were all wondering whatever happened to Baby Jane. Thanks for providing an answer.

Hi, Kurt. --it is Kurt, right? I'm still -- memories. You know how it is.

You're still memories. I see. Well I'm still Kurt, so that works for us. How are you doing?

Shut up, Kurt. [ With fond exasperation. ] You know, pretty well, all things considered. I'm not outside and half-frozen to death already, so that's already an improvement over my other two arrivals here.

You're working your way up, Jane! Maybe next time, you'll get a penthouse and silk pajamas. I'm glad to hear that everything's in working order.

[ That makes her laugh. ] A girl can dream, right? Anyway, how are you?

Well, these past few months... They've been a doozy. [There's some gravity in his voice there - his acknowledging of what's happened recently. Especially the House of M. But he doesn't want to dwell on it - not while talking to an old friend.] But right now? I'm okay. It's business as usual for the X-Men.

... a doozy, huh. [ Yikes. ] I know I'm going to get the run down from a few other people, but if anything sticks out to you, I wouldn't mind hearing it. Anyway, does that mean Logan's around?

[He's not sure about how to address the first part - it's not something he wants to dump on anyone.]

Well... He's on a mission, actually. This his "business as usual". If you need to leave him a message or a love letter, I'll be sure to hold onto it for him.

Ah. I'll skip the love letter, thanks. It's alright, I'll see him when he gets back. [ .... ] Kurt, how bad a doozy are we talking?

[He hesitates.]

It's not really easy to rank. And... I'd rather not talk about it right now. But it was the kind of thing that... it messed with our heads. And - our hearts.

[ That wins a weighty pause. Finally, somewhat subdued: ]

It's fine, it's fine. Don't worry about it, Kurt. I appreciate the heads up. Is there anything good going on?

[He nods quietly.] Thank you.

Well... You're only a week late for my birthday?

Oh! Um. Happy belated birthday!

Thanks! I mean, I think I actually turned 18 a few months ago, but doing the math here is way too confusing for me! Aside from that, I've got some jobs going on at some new places around here. A coffeehouse and a night club! I bet you're jealous already.

You know if you need any math done I'm right here. Now, at least. [ With no small amount of amusement. ] Wow! Yeah. I really am -- so jealous, like, you have no idea. I didn't -- since when do we even have a night club?

You're right. I won't even need this calculator anymore! Maybe I'll run the months by you sometime.

I think there was a night club here before, but people stopped running it. And just a month or so ago, two other people here have started opening up their own.

[ She laughs. ] Sure. Might as well test my mental arithmetic, right?

Oh, wow. I totally missed the first one. I guess night clubs just aren't my thing. Unless you wanted to give me a tour sometime?

Of course! That can be my third job. Kurt Wagner, the amazing tour guide! Speaking of how great I am, are you missing anything that'd be in any of the shops?

Mmmmmy journals which wouldn't be there at all, never mind. I can't think of anything other than my clothes. I guess it's possible some of my instruments might turn up, but-- uh, not musical instruments-- devices. For measuring -- things. But they might be a little too high tech to show up. I never really see anything that advanced around here, though I gotta say, the elevators? So nice.

So things are going up for you already, huh? Well I'll poke around the item shop and see what if I can find something that has lots of glowing lights on it. I bet that'll fit the bill. And also, how do you like your coffee?

Wow. Kurt. [ She laughs, but there's a groan mixed in. That joke was so bad. ] Um ... not exactly, but I guess if you kept an eye out, that'd be great? Annnnnd cream, two sugars. Are we getting coffee?

I live to serve! And I'm getting coffee, while you stay put. Where are you exactly?

Ah. My own personal coffee delivery service. I could get used to this kind of luxury.

[ Teeeasing. ]

[And in just a few minutes, Kurt is bamfing right over within several feet of her with the coffee in hand. It's in a cup that has a smiley face drawn on it.]
